Suspect a bird nest or a blocked chimney?

Twigs or debris falling into the fireplace, birds entering the chimney or a change in how the fire draws are reasons to arrange an inspection. Tell us what you have noticed when you contact us. If you suspect a blockage, leave the appliance unused until it has been assessed.

Assessment, removal and sweeping

1. Describe the problem. Send your postcode, a photo of the fireplace and any details of birds or debris.
2. Agree the approach. We assess access and the likely obstruction. A CCTV chimney inspection may help locate it.
3. Remove where appropriate. Removal is carried out only where access and conditions allow and wildlife protection requirements are met.
4. Discuss the next step. We explain whether sweeping, further investigation or repairs are needed before reuse.

How much does chimney nest removal cost?

Our published guide price for nest or obstruction removal is from £60. The final price depends on the blockage and access. A standard chimney sweep is £70 and a sweep with CCTV inspection is £120. We will confirm which work is needed and the total before proceeding; do not assume sweeping is included in the removal price.

Active nests and preventing another blockage

A nest being built or used by wild birds is legally protected. Finding a nest does not mean it can be removed immediately. We assess the situation first and discuss when work can take place. Read the government guidance on wild birds and nests.

Once removal is appropriate, ask about a suitable bird guard or cowl for your particular chimney and appliance. Supply, fitting and any access equipment are quoted separately. A guard must not trap birds inside the chimney.
