When is a camera inspection useful?

A CCTV inspection can help investigate the inside of a flue when its condition is uncertain, a blockage is suspected or concerns have been found during sweeping. It can also be useful when discussing a fireplace that has not been used for some time.

Tell us whether you have an open fireplace, a wood burner or a multifuel stove, and describe any smoke, debris or other changes you have noticed. If the chimney may be blocked or unsafe, leave the appliance unused pending assessment.

What the inspection covers

We use a chimney camera to view the parts of the flue that can be reached and seen. This may reveal obstructions, visible damage or areas requiring a closer assessment. We explain the findings and discuss suitable next steps with you.

Soot, deposits, bends and access can limit the view. A camera inspection alone cannot establish the condition of every concealed component or guarantee that an installation is safe. Additional sweeping or testing may be needed depending on what is found.
